According to a popular pop song, you can feel it in your fingers and your toes because love is all around us. And indeed it is. You can see love everyday and everywhere. You hear it uttered in everyday conversations – From loving one's hair color to loving even the most mundane things we can think of. We seem to have lost the true meaning of love because it has become so common. It is now present in the most ordinary things. So is this really love?

Perhaps you've heard of a love that surpasses knowledge? Doesn't it just blow your mind to know that there could be this kind of love that is beyond reason?

What about a love that is immeasurable? Is it possible? We all know that all things are finite and everything has boundaries and limits.

Most of us have been taught "God loves you." It's one of the first phrases we hear from our parents. It may sound like a cliché but it's the truth. God loves us. And only God's love surpasses knowledge and is immeasurable.

When we love something or someone, there is always something good that attracted us to that object or person. We say "We love the color of this shirt" or "I love you because you make me feel special. "But we as sinners don't have anything good that would appeal to God yet still He has given us the greatest manifestation of love – His son, Jesus Christ. As it is written in John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." God loves us for who we are and we don't have to earn His love because He has given it to us freely, with no conditions.

I remember hearing the pastor from one Sunday preaching say that "There is nothing you can do to make God stop loving you." Is that possible? God's love is not based on performance and accomplishment. He won't love you less when you sin or if you fail to measure up to expectations and He won't love you more because of your accomplishments because He already loves us beyond anything we can comprehend! A good illustration is a child holding his father's hand while walking and then stumbles. Just like any loving father, our heavenly Father will not walk out on us or let us fend for ourselves. He will reach out His hand to pull us up and dust us off so we can continue to walk with Him. It is because of His great love that He will not turn away from any of His children. There is no such thing as 'falling out of love' with God. No notion of 'This isn't working out so we'd better give each other some space.' It is truly flattering to know that the Big Guy up there will always be in love with us in spite of our weaknesses and flaws.

So the next time you say "I love this book" or "I love this song so much" maybe you can pause and think of the real meaning of love – That portrayed in the sacrifice and limitless love of our Heavenly Father and just rephrase it altogether to "I like this book" or "I like this song so much" because God's love is incomparable.
