It’s been 25 long years since the 1st generation of believers which became CCF started. Long enough to observe how so very many of us who came to know the Lord in the early years remain unchanged after all these years. Some who are still as mean, still as unfeeling and insensitive to those around them. Still chronically irritable and grumpy. And yet we continue to come to church Sunday after Sunday. Or to Bible Studies and Group Meetings. Some even try to witness to someone at every opportunity.
Why doesn’t this anomaly bother us all that much? We should all have become remarkably Christlike after all those years. Well, many of us haven’t. In fact some have even gone worse. Why aren’t we scandalized by this? We should. After all, Jesus said we are all meant to become increasingly Christlike. He called us to it and empowered us for the transformation. So where do we come off accepting this among God’s people?
Dallas Willard, in one of his landmark books musing about this, wrote "misunderstanding true spirituality causes great damage; not only to ourselves but to Christianity itself!
Spirituality wrongly understood or pursued is a major source of human misery and rebellion against God. How many people are radically and permanently repelled by Christians who are unfeeling, stiff, unapproachable, boringly lifeless, obsessive and dissatisfied! Yet such Christians are everywhere."
Join us as we explore just how we here in Singapore might start to do something about this. Perhaps the Lord will yet give us the privilege of seeing this anomaly reversed, at least among us and those we minister to and with.
We’ve begun to address this in our last couple of Sunday Messages. We’ve also decided to address it headlong in a once a month workshop starting on February 27, at Center for American Education (CAE).
We’ve entitled this EBAM series "Spiritual Formation, the engine we all need". And we intend to run it from 3:30pm to 6:30pm every last Saturday of the month. Block out the dates in your calendars. If you’re serious about doing your part in becoming more and more Christlike you won’t want to miss any of the sessions.
Please fill in your details and register here by February 21. (extended until February 26)
